THE OHIO STREET PROBATION BUILDING IS LEED GOLD CERTIFIED AND A ZERO NET ENERGY (ZNE) CERTIFIED FACILITY

This project is a 21,000 SF, 2-story new facility with five distinctive areas: a public Main Entrance and secure Lobby, the Probation Services Offices and Testing areas, the Community Service Providers offices, Probation Staff Admin areas and amenities, and the Community Outreach area with a large Community Conference Room, Co-Workspace, Community Garden, Food Pantry and Demonstration Kitchen that opens directly to Community Garden Patio.

The Ohio Street Probation facility is the first project to fully incorporate San Diego County’s vision of integrating traditional probation services with other community-based programs to improve the County’s delivery of services and benefit the entire community. The project is non-institutional in appearance, with a character that is warm and respectful to its clients while being thoughtful and protective of County staff. The building reflects its mission and its focus on sustainability, dramatically improving San Diego’s North Park community.

The colocation of probation with other community-based resources is essential for providing true wrap-around services to clients, since many probation clients are also clients of behavioral health, social services, and other government and non-profit community-based organizations. The new facility is organized differently from the department’s previous facilities in its focus on enhancing client access and experience while maintaining the confidentiality of information in operational areas.
